What is Holistic Medicine?

Holistic medicine is a style of healing that works to balance the body, mind and spirit in order to achieve true wellness. A holistic practitioner looks beyond the presented symptoms to help bring underlying issues into focus and alignment. Instead of simply looking to treat acute symptoms, your holistic practitioner will work with you to establish an ongoing preventive routine, along with addressing any current issues you may already have. As the old saying goes, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” It’s easier to stop something from happening in the first place than it is to repair the damage.

But as we go through life we’re bound to get a little dinged up along the way, and it’s invaluable to have a caring helping hand in your corner. Working with a holistic practitioner is a collaborative experience. I would recommend it only be something you do when you’re ready to take responsibility and ownership of your health. Your holistic practitioner can make all the recommendations in the world for you as to how you can lead a healthier and more vibrant life, but their advice won’t do you any good if you choose to not do your part and don’t take action on their recommendation. But when you are ready to take your next steps into balanced health and wellness, you’ll find that your holistic practitioner will be there to help you on your journey, viewing you as a unique, complex, and layered individual, and they will approach your health needs keeping that at the forefront of their mind.

When choosing a holistic practitioner to work with, be sure to choose someone you feel like you can connect with and trust. Don’t be afraid to ask them more details about their methods and specialities if something feels unclear, so that you can feel confident they align with your goals.

Happy healing!
